This Kielbasa and Cabbage skillet brings together rich flavors and simple preparation. It’s a quick, satisfying dish perfect for a cozy dinner or a healthy meal.

- 1 pound kielbasa sliced in 1/2” round
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup yellow onion thinly sliced
- 3 cups green cabbage cored and diced into 1-inch pieces (about 1 medium head)
- 3 cloves garlic chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper optional
- 1 tablespoon stone ground or whole grain mustard
- sour cream for serving optional
Instructions
- Slice the kielbasa into ½-inch rounds.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the kielbasa for 4-5 minutes until browned on both sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium, add butter and sliced onions to the skillet, and sauté until tender and translucent for about 3 minutes.
- Add cabbage, garlic, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes to the skillet. Cook while stirring for about 7-10 minutes until tender.
- Stir in mustard, add kielbasa back to the skillet, and toss to combine. Adjust seasoning if needed and serve immediately, topped with optional sour cream.
Notes
The dish is best served fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Feel free to add other vegetables like carrots or bell peppers for added flavor.
Using a cast-iron skillet can enhance the browning of the kielbasa.
