Description

Heart Shaped Pizzas are a delightful twist on the classic favorite. Loaded with gooey mozzarella, savory pizza sauce, and the option for heart-shaped pepperoni, they are sure to please everyone!


Ingredients

  • 1 package instant yeast 2 ¼ teaspoon
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 ½ t sugar
  • 2 ⅓ cups flour plus more for dusting the counter
  • 1 t salt
  • ½ t garlic powder
  • ½ t basil
  • 2 t evoo plus more to coat
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • pepperoni cut into hearts (optional)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Whisk and let it rest for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, garlic powder, basil, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until it forms a shaggy dough, then knead gently until a cohesive ball forms.
  3. Drizzle more olive oil over the dough ball and cover loosely with plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Dust your counter with flour. Divide the dough into halves or thirds and roll each into a heart shape about half an inch thick.
  5. Brush the outer edges of each heart with olive oil for a golden crust. Poke holes in the dough with a fork to prevent air bubbles.
  6. Spread pizza sauce over each heart, leaving a small border, and sprinkle generously with mozzarella cheese.
  7. If using, cut pepperoni into heart shapes with a cookie cutter and arrange on top of the cheese.
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes until edges are golden brown and cheese is melted. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
