Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef 85/15
- 1/2 small yellow onion, grated fine
- 1/2 cup italian seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, whisked
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/2 small yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- dash ground black pepper
- 4 ounces white button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 3 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, grated onion, breadcrumbs, whisked egg, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, ground mustard, and black pepper.
- Shape the meat mixture into four oval patties, each about 1/2 inch thick, and set them aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties and brown each side for about 2 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Add diced onion and minced garlic, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for about 3 minutes. Then add sliced mushrooms and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and stir. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, scraping any browned bits from the pan. Stir in ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, then bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Return the browned patties to the skillet, along with any juices from the plate. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the patties are thoroughly cooked and the gravy thickens.
Notes
Ensure the ground beef is not too lean for maximum flavor.
If preferred, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
Serve over mashed potatoes or with a side of vegetables for a complete meal.
