Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon tabasco sauce or other hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt or ½ tablespoon table salt
- 1 whole chicken cut into 8-10 pieces
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 ½ tablespoons seasoning salt
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon coarse ground pepper
- Olive oil spray or cooking spray
Instructions
- In a large bowl, stir together the buttermilk, Tabasco Sauce, and kosher salt.
- Add the chicken pieces and ensure they’re fully covered. Let the chicken brine for at least 2 hours or up to 24 hours.
- Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F before cooking.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, seasoning salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and pepper.
- Drain the liquid from the chicken and let each piece drip off excess buttermilk. Coat half of the chicken pieces with the flour mixture and shake off the excess.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the coated chicken pieces in the basket.
- Generously spray the chicken with olive oil spray. Turn the chicken over and spray again.
- Air fry at 360 degrees F for 13-15 minutes.
- Flip the chicken pieces and cook for an additional 7-10 minutes or until the thickest part of the chicken reaches 165 degrees F.
- Repeat the process with the remaining chicken pieces.
- Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Adjust the level of spice by using more or less Tabasco sauce according to taste.
Make sure to check the internal temperature of the chicken for proper doneness.
